Precast façade fire spread assessment to BR135 performance Criteria

ASPA has recently commissioned BRE’s Passive Fire Protection Department to assess the ability of precast cladding solutions to resist the spread of fire and satisfy the performance criteria of BR 135 (Fire performance of external thermal insulation for walls of multi-storey buildings) if tested in accordance with BS 8414-2: 2015. BRE has looked at three worst case scenarios where single leaf precast facades are used with three different types of insulation (Kingspan K15, Xtratherm Safe-R, Celotex RS5000) in conjunction with steel fixings. The results of all three assessments were positive and were deemed to satisfy the performance criteria of BR135.
